Father John Misty Albums

If we include his work under the Josh Tillman stage name, his discography includes 14 studio albums, six EPs, 17 singles, a soundtrack album, and several contributions for other artists. This huge body of work has spanned a considerable amount of time and has helped make Tillman, now known as Father John Misty, an important name for many music lovers. But because he has so much work under his belt,, it can be difficult to talk about all of his work in a short passage. So instead we’ll talk about his early work as Father John Misty as well as his most recent album.

Early Album Release

Fear Fun was the first album released under the Father John Misty name. It was released in April 2012 in the UK and Euroope and in May 2012 for the rest of the world. The album had a strong start debuting at #43 on the Top Rock Albums chart and #123 on the Billboard 200, and sold 4,000 copies in the first week. It went on to sell 83,000 copies in the US alone as of February 2015.

He followed this up with his second album, I Love You, Honeybear, which was released on February 9, 2015 in the UK and Europe and February 10, 2015 in other locations. The album is considered a concept album by the artist. It went on to receive widespread acclaim by critics and was rated as one of the top albums of the year in several publications. It also shattered his previous album record by peaking at #17 on the US Billboard 200.

Recent Album Work

Father John Misty’s latest album, Chloe and the Next 20th Century, was released on April 8, 2022. It was met with critical acclaim upon release ending up with a metacritic rating of 82 based on 25 reviews. 

The album was primarily praised for Father John Misty’s songwriting which some have said transcends its era. The tracks have a vintage style that’s melodically stunning, in particular the chorus on the “We Could Be Strangers” single. And in Ireland, the album was chosen by RTE Radio 1 as their album of the week on April 15, 2022.
